Sourdough starter cultures

To make good sorudough you'll need a reliable culture, good organic flour, mineral or de-chlorinated water, and sea salt. And some patience!

We sell authentic cultures from around the world, in semi-dried form, from our bakery cultures, which are ready to use within 24 hours. We include instructions on re-activating the culture and some basic bread recipes. Each culture costs £9.99 plus postage to the UK and Europe. Or buy a twin pack for £17.99.

Cultures stay true to their heritage by resisting other bugs, and should last a lifetime.

The cultures:

San Francisco Sourdough Culture
One of the most well-known locations where sourdough is highly popular. The culture is full flavoured, and works well with all wheat doughs. It's very dependable and the most popular on to start your sourdough career! From a bakery in San Francisco and very authentic in its heritage.

Russian Culture
This culture handles heavy Russian rye or whole wheat doughs very well and works quite quickly. Brought over from Russia over 30 years ago, and still one of the most active cultures we've ever seen, with a delightful citrus tang.

Other cultures in dried form from around the world can also be bought online.

If a culture fails to "start", it will be replaced within one month of sending.
